Hi All,

Just a quick update as I had morning tea with the Honourable Phil Twyford recently. This was a post budget housing sector briefing and an opportunity to discuss the budget, hear the Minister’s vision for housing, and discuss how the Government can work effectively with the housing sector to address the housing crisis.

I was lucky enough to be one of a small group invited and questioned him directly about the governments push for intensification without the necessary robust legislation and consumer protection infrastructure required to ensure its success.

They are pushing for increased density without the structure to facilitate this, and he agreed this is why the new government have prioritised our working groups efforts which was great.

As the Minister with overall responsibility for Housing and Urban Development, he has stated that it is his intention to have the review pushed forward in this parliamentary year and a draft of a Unit Titles Amendment Bill will be released for public consultation later this year.

He also spoke largely of the Kiwibuild initiative and significant capital investment in houses ($2b+), infrastructure (roads, rail and public buildings) and Christchurch regeneration, both on a local and international level.

I will continue to advocate and keep you updated on behalf of both Property 101 Group and as President of SCA(NZ). Collaborating with some of the Nation’s finest, we remain cautiously optimistic, watch this space!

Joanne.
