As you may be aware Property 101 Group Director & SCA(NZ) President, Joanne Barreto was on the Working Group for the Better Body Corporates initiative that spearheaded the review of the Act earlier this year. It’s an exciting time for the government as NZ waits in anticipation and the working group members have been lucky enough to receive an email from Hon Nikki Kaye, MP for Auckland Central, providing an update regarding the reforms to the Unit Titles Act 2010 to the working group involved in the review.

She has confirmed that under a National Government Minister Nick Smith has taken decisions through the caucus and so there will be legislation amending the Unit Titles Act in the Parliament by Christmas. The changes will at least cover policy on disclosure, dispute resolution, body corporate managers and maintenance plan requirements. Apparently, the work on these elements has been largely completed.

Grant Robertson, MP for Wellington Central, & Phil Twyford, Labour housing spokesman, have also said they are broadly supportive of the changes Nikki Kaye is proposing.
